Rise of the Planet of the Apes – DVD/BluRay
I’m posting comments from folks who went to see this movie while it was at the thousands of movie theaters instead of the critics who did the write-up for it. Personally, I like the movie because to me, it speaks volume in ways it would be very difficult for me to try to explain without having to choke a few folks along the way. If I had to rate it, I would give it four-stars simply because Hollywood continues to hold back a lot of shit that needs to be revealed. They wouldn’t want me there. I would shake up everybody. Wink! Wink! So, my choice is to bow out from this commentary and let you read what others have to say. I did not change a thing. This is straight from my affiliate Amazon. If there are any misspelled words or incomplete profanity, it’s still there. I’m starting with five-stars down to one-star. But, before that, I’ve included a really nice preview, then at the very bottom, you can actually see some of what the animation or special affects crew did to make these apes look so alive. Amazing! You will also see two separate quotes from the old Apes movies. Enjoy! BTW: God did not make apes in her image. She was the one who created them.

Quotes from The Planet of the Apes: Beware the beast man, for he is the devil’s pawn. Alone among God’s primates, he kills for sport, or lust or greed. Yes, he will murder his brother to possess his brother’s land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him. Drive him back into his jungle lair: For he is the harbinger of death. The Twenty-third Scroll, Ninth Verse, “Planet Of The Apes” My case is simple. It is based on our first Article of Faith: that the Almighty created the ape in his own image; that He gave him a soul and a mind; that He set him apart from the beasts of the jungle, and made him the lord of the planet. |

* * * * * I haven’t bought a new DVD in 7 years, but I have to own this movie~ December 1, 2011 Y. Yamada “DeRogue” (CA, USA)
From start to finish this was just an utterly engrossing film. The emotions that Caesar brings to the screen (via Andy Serkis) is something else; you see and feel every ounce of it, whether sad, angry, confused, terrified, and everything in between. You’re watching an ape go through so many emotional ranges and it’s pretty heartbreaking at times, because ultimately it transcends on a human level. I truly appreciate big-budget movies like this, because so much that gets cranked out by Hollywood typically s-u-_-ks. I can only hope that the sequel is as equally good or better; that the minds that created this one will put in the same amount of energy to craft another gem.

A very smart, sensible way to reboot the franchise, enriching the legacy left by the originals while paving the way for fresher material. It does struggle through a few minor glitches – some terribly forced one-liners and a stereotypical redneck jailer spring to mind – but at heart it’s a bright, challenging take that takes its time, delivers a few powerful moments of revelation, and doesn’t look or act like your typical CGI-driven action dump. James Franco has shown more versatility in previous leading roles, but his character in Apes is intended to be about as straightforward and vanilla as it gets, so that’s precisely what he delivers. The real focus is on the apes themselves, anyway, with whom the picture treads lightly amidst some very tricky material. It often toes the line between excess and believability, but never gives in fully to temptation and emerges as a far better film for exercising caution. An intriguing take on material that everyone already assumed they understood, it opens the door wide to further investigation.

The movie was decent. The things i expected were: more violence, sci fi ideas presented, and more plot or complications. If i wanted to see animals interact, id watch animal planet. The movie was predictable, the franco character was not complicated, and the fight scenes were good, but not good enough. I expected the people to fight back better, or differently.
* * freakin awful, October 2, 2011 R. Reid (san jose ca usa)
if you like lots of animated apes, spend your money here on this one. my god can’t hollywood think of anything new?
* Horrible!, November 10, 2011 Robert P. Fredericks (Belleplain, NJ USA)
Boring and uninteristing movie. The special effects at the end were good,but again just couldn’t get into this at all. I am a Planet of the Apes fan,the original is a masterpiece,this is just couldn’t get it. It was also very drawn out.
